Meet our Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Char-Shenda D. Covington is currently serving as a turnaround principal in the third largest school district in GA and recently became a best-selling author. Her 15 years in education have provided her the opportunity to gain experience in supporting the executive/instructional leadership teams in schools across the nation. She has created, developed, and monitored the effective implementation of state standards, evaluated the quality of teaching and learning, and created assessments at the school and district levels. Dr. Covington served as a School Improvement Consultant and Literacy Trainer with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) in Atlanta, GA in which she primarily served in the bottom 5% of schools in 14 states. Dr. Covington has also been an assistant principal, chief academic officer, curriculum director, and assessment developer at the state and district levels.
Dr. Covington is a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. For the last 6 years, she has been an active participant with the Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC). DTEC supports teachers in an effort to enhance the educational opportunities for minority students throughout the country. This partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has a three pronged approach which includes training teachers, advocacy, and publishing scholarly research on teacher efficacy and student achievement. Dr. Covington’s contribution included the co-publication, of Beyond the Surface: Examining Leadership’s Role in Collective Efficacy. She is happy to be amongst those who are a voice for equity!

Dr. Covington has received numerous awards and/or recognition as an agent of change in the field of Education. She formerly served as a member of the Social Studies Steering committee for Governor Deal, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Education, was the youngest graduate for both her Masters and Doctoral programs, as well as a recipient of Principal’s Awards from each school employed. In addition to these awards, many reputable companies and individuals have called on her expertise to improve the quality of education, focusing on culturally responsive pedagogy, literacy-rich curricula, and high-quality Social Studies instruction.
